Volunteer & Employment Opportunities

Upward Bound

The Cornell Upward Bound program has been effectively working with 50 students in Southside and Elmira Free Academy High Schools in Elmira, NY and Groton High School since 2007 on their academic and life skills to prepare them for enrollment, and success in college. In June of 2012 Cornell’s UB program was successfully refunded to serve 63 students for 5 years and has expanded to include Newfield & Spencer – Van Etten School districts. As UB expands and new commitments are continuously re-shaping in and out of the office, staff and volunteers who are committed to promoting the pursuit of post-secondary education are always welcomed to contribute to the UB community.

For more information for both volunteer and employment opportunities within Upward Bound, please contact Jeremy Kinsman, UB Assistant Director, jwk14@cornell.edu.

Volunteer

UB volunteers are an integral component to the educational and enrichment services we offer our students. Volunteer opportunities for facilitating tutoring opportunities, and programming (van drivers, Saturday Academy program facilitators, etc.) are open throughout the academic year. If you are a Cornell student or community member interested in volunteering, we would be happy to discuss the various options—both in & out of our office.

Work Study

Our work study students create the foundation of our program facilitation through the Cornell Public Service Center’s Community Work Study program. From providing weekly tutoring support, organizing UB files, tracking our students for reporting purposes to researching grant opportunities, work study students have the opportunity to truly experience the logistics and inner workings of a non-profit organization such as Upward Bound. If you are a Cornell student with federal work-study available, you could qualify paid employment opportunities with UB. Learn more by connecting with the Upward Bound office!
