Kaplan Family Distinguished Lecture

The Kaplan Family Distinguished Lecture in Public Service was developed to bring nationally and internationally recognized leaders to the Cornell campus to share with faculty, students, staff and community leaders his/her contributions to promoting public service, citizen action, human rights, or social activism. 

Past lecturers have included:

  • Shirin Ebadi – an Iranian lawyer, a former judge and human rights activist and founder of Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran.
  • Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – an environmental activist, author, chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council.
  • Nicholas Kristof – an American journalist, author, op-ed columnist, and a winner of two Pulitzer Prizes.
  • Douglas McMeekin – an Ashoka Fellow, founder of The Yachana Foundation and world renowned Geotourism facility, Yachana Lodge.
  • Jane Coyne – a logistician/project coordinator/head of mission for Doctors without Borders.
