Bright Red Bookshelves

The Cornell Public Service Center is the coordinating host of the Cornell Community of the Bright Red Bookshelf, a project of the Family Reading Partnership, a coalition of more than 50 community agencies working to create a culture of literacy by expanding opportunities for reading experiences and developing resources for the community. The "gently used" children's books are distributed to children free of charge.

The PSC partners with other departments on campus on a monthly, rotating basis throughout the spring semester and summer.

For more information on the Family Reading Partnership and their programs call 607-277-8602 or e-mail info@familyreading.org.

About the Program

The Cornell Public Service Center collects gently-used children's books for the Bright Red Bookshelf program of the Family Reading Partnership (FRP) of Tompkins County. This program offers low-income families access to books by recirculating gently-used children's books back in to the community free for families to keep. It is one of a number of FRP projects that are designed to promote early experiences with books as part of everyday family life for all children in the community. To learn how your department can join the book drive and host a bright red bookshelf, please email Nathan Lockett at njl22@cornell.edu.
